1 killed, three injured in two separate road mishaps

1st incident took place near Salt Lake stadium, 2nd at Tehatta.

Kolkata: One person was killed and three others have been injured, some of them critically, in two separate road accidents in the state.
The first incident took place near Salt Lake stadium on late Saturday night when a car lost control and rammed into a divider. Police and local people rushed the injured victim to the hospital. His condition is stated to be serious. The incident caused traffic congestion in the area for half an hour.
According to the preliminary investigation, police suspect that the accident took place due to the over-speeding of the vehicle. Police said that the accident happened at around 1.30 am on late Saturday night. The car was going towards Ultadanga from Beliaghata. The driver whose identity is yet to be ascertained was driving the car at top speed when he suddenly lost control of the vehicle and hit a divider. The car was badly damaged in the accident.
After being informed, the police rushed to the spot and rescued the injured driver with the help of some local people. He was taken to a private hospital on EM Bypass where he has been undergoing treatment with serious injuries on various parts of his body.
Police have started a probe in this regard and seized the car. They were investigating if the driver was in an inebriated state.
The other accident claimed the life of a 35-year-old youth who was hit by a speeding truck at Jitpur area of Nadia's Tehatta. Three persons were also injured in the accident. The incident took place on Sunday morning triggering tension among the local residents. Some local people put up road block protesting against the over-speeding of the heavy duty trucks.
A huge contingent of police force rushed to the spot and pacified the mob with an assurance that stern action would be taken against the accused driver and there will also be crack downs on the errant truck drivers who often flout the traffic norms. The vehicles which remained stranded on the road following the accident started operating after the police cleared the road.
According to the police, the deceased was a resident of Betai area of Tehatta. He was travelling in a toto (e-rickshaw) when a speeding truck lost control and hit it. Three others who were also in the toto were injured.
They were immediately rushed to the hospital. The condition of the two persons is stated to be serious. Police are conducting raids to nab the driver who fled the spot along with the vehicle immediately after the accident.
