1 held for 'sexually abusing' woman

Kolkata: A person was arrested by Purba Jadavpur police station on charges of sexually abusing a woman who happened to be the former's neighbour. The 32-year-old victim is a resident of Chitkalikapur area.

Police sources informed that the woman lodged a complaint against one Kamal Thakur (39), who allegedly sexually abused her with the false promise of arranging an SC certificate for her. The accused who lived in the neighbourhood is a barber. He originally hails from Rajkharampur under Tejpur police station area in Samastipur district of Bihar.

According to police sources, the woman was in a relationship with the accused for nearly a month and on Wednesday night she was called at the residence of the accused and sexually abused with the false promise of handing her a caste certificate which was needed by the victim.

In another incident, a section of junior artists protested before the Jadavpur police station on Wednesday night after the production house for which they were shooting did not provide them with transport arrangement for going home. The shooting took place on the campus of Jadavpur University and ended at night. The agitators claimed that the production house had promised to make arrangements for their return. They further alleged that the production manager along with some other crew members allegedly heckled him when they protested against the non-availability of transport to return home. The agitators had lodged a complaint against the manager of the production unit.
