1 held for duping woman and fleeing with gold jewellery

Kolkata: A miscreant was arrested by officers of Thakurpukur police station for allegedly cheating a woman by assuring her to get her gold jewellery polished.

However, as soon as the miscreants got the jewellery from the woman, they fled the spot.

According to the police, in August, a woman identified as Archana Gayen of Anandanagar in Thakurpukur lodged a complaint at the Thakurpukur police station stating that some unknown persons cheated her and fled with her gold jewellery.

According to Gayen, accused persons convinced her that they would get her gold jewellery polished.

The accused persons told her that they would give her money against her jewellery as a security deposit.

Gayen was told that after she would get back her ornaments, she was suppose to return the money.

As Gayen was convinced, she handed her jewellery to the accused persons.

In return, one of the accused persons handed her a bundle of paper cuttings that looked like currency notes. When she was busy checking the money, accused persons fled the spot.

After starting the probe, the police collected CCTV camera footages of that area.

Later, the police shared footages with their sources and sought information.

A few days ago one of the police sources informed the officers that one of the accused has been identified as Abbasuddin Molla alias Banka of Basuldanga at Diamond Harbour in South 24-Parganas.

Based on the information, a police team raided his house and nabbed him on Monday.

During the interrogation he confessed to crime and told the police that he had kept the gold jewellery at his home.

On Tuesday, the police searched his home and found about 28.860 grams of gold.
