Kolkata witnesses its coldest day

The city witnessed its coldest day on Saturday with mercury dipping to 13.5 degree Celsius which is one degree below normal. Alipore Meteorology department said that a cold wave will sweep in the districts of North 24-Parganas in the next three days.

According to the Met department officials the temperature will dip in the state, especially in North Bengal. Darjeeling, Jalpaiguri, Malda, North and South Dinajpur will also experience cold wave in the next few days. 

Darjeeling witnessed 4 degree Celsius, while in Jalpaiguri the temperature remained at 7.2. Uttar Dinajpur on Saturday registered 7 degree celsius and Malda 9.9 and Bankura 9.5.

The districts of South Bengal are likely to experience the chilly weather for the next couple of days. Cloudy sky prevented the cold to really settle for last few days. With the mercury dipping during the festive season, people in large numbers have started touring various places within the state.

 “Poush Mela” in Santiniketan has always been a centre of attraction for the people from various parts of the country and abroad. The temperature there is hovering around 8-9 degree Celsius. People also visited Ayodhya hill in large numbers. Many enthusiastic people who love to travel have already chalked out their plans to spend this weekend in various tourist spots.

People wrapped in woolen dresses came out of their houses and took part in various programmes on Friday to soak in the spirit of the holidays which continued on Saturday. People were found revelling in Christmas mood at different places in the city.
