Celebrating West Bengal’s rich sartorial heritage, a new e-commerce craft house is providing direct interface between weavers and connoisseurs to popularise the ‘tant’ (cotton) and silk weaves from the region.
“Bengal’s exclusive handloom tradition needs to be recognised across the world. Tant and silk from Bengal should be available across the world. Kiukart (the portal) will provide direct interface between the weavers and the connoisseurs across India and the world,” said Souvik Das, the portal’s founder.
The site showcases the uniqueness of ‘tant’ and silks like Baluchari and Murshidabadi with information about their origins, special techniques and characteristics, added Das.
