Riders ruled on the day of the Knights as Chennai Super Kings bit the dust in a thrilling fnal of IPL 5 played in Chennai on Sunday. The home crowd’s loud support failed to shake the Knights who chased down a steep target with elan with two balls and fve wickets to spare. Afer the defending champions posted an imposing 190, many thought the Riders will crumble under pressure.

Yellow fever in the stands spread unchecked afer Gautam Gambhir was castled in the frst over. But last-moment inclusion Manvinder Bisla had other plans. Taking little time to get accustomed to the pace and bounce of the slow track, the Himachal lad unleashed a furry of boundaries with Jaques Kallis playing the sheet anchor’s role to perfection. Bisla hit a whirlwing 89 (48b, 8x4, 5x6) as KKR added 136 runs for the second wicket to take the match away from CSK. A few quick wickets pushed the match into last over but Bengal-lad Manoj Tiwary held his nerve and struck successive boundaries of Dwayne Bravo as the stands erupted with joy with team co-owner Shah Rukh Khan leading from front.

Earlier, Suresh Raina’s blitzkrieg and Mike Hussey’s priceless knock helped the defending champions post a commendable 190 for three. Opting to bat, Hussey (54, 43b, 4x4, 2x6) along with Murali Vijay (42, 32b, 4x4, 1x6) set the platform with a brisk opening partnership of 87 runs. Raina (73, 38b, 3x4, 5x6) then complemented the opening duo’s effort as he hit some of the biggest sixes in the tournament with a few of them flying out of the stadium.
