Kingpin of a fake currency racket arrested from Rotua

In a major breakthrough, the police have arrested kingpin of a fake currency racket from Rotua in Malda on Sunday morning. 

Counterfeit currency worth Rs 1 lakh was recovered from him. Police have produced the accused identified as Chandan Karmakar before the Chachal Court where he was remanded in police custody. 

Police said they were in search for Karmakar for a long time. Acting on a tip-off, police had raided one of his hideouts and arrested him. 

Preliminary investigation revealed that he had connection with several inter-state fake currency racket and at the same time he runs a racket in north Bengal. 

His name had cropped up in several other cases in connection with recovery of counterfeit notes.
