Kin of 30-yr-old get over Rs 10-lakh relief

The family of a 30-year-old man, who died after being hit by a rashly-driven tractor, have been awarded over Rs 10 lakh compensation by a Motor Accident Claims Tribunal (MACT).
The tribunal directed Oriental Insurance Co, insurance of the offending vehicle, to pay Rs 10,26,755 to the family of Prakash Jha, a resident of Muzaffarpur in Bihar, who died in 2009. “Nothing is shown on record if Jha was himself negligent or that the accident occurred due to his fault and it is rather proved that at the relevant time, Respondent 1 (driver) was driving the offending vehicle in a rash manner and caused the accident wherein he lost his life,” it said.
