Kin cry negligence after patient dies in hospital

A patient who was brought to Burdwan Medical College and Hospital on late Monday night died due to alleged negligence of the doctors.

The doctors were conducting a cease work to protest against the harassment of the doctors by the patients’ relatives.

The incident had created much furore at Burdwan Medical College since Monday night. The agitation was lifted on Monday afternoon after the junior doctors held a meeting with the hospital authorities and the senior administrative officials who had assured them that they were looking into the security issues of the doctors inside the hospital campus.

Both the hospital authorities and the juniors denied that a patient died due to the cease work by the doctors. They claimed that the patient’s condition was serious and he died despite the best of treatment provided by the doctors at the hospital. The victim’s family members have, however, alleged that none had attended the patient after he was taken to the hospital as a result of which his condition deteriorated further.

The incident originated when a scuffle broke out between the junior doctors and some relatives of the patient on Monday night. The doctors have alleged that they were physically assaulted by some relatives of the patient.

The junior doctors along with some other doctors joined a protest movement. They started to sit on demonstration inside the hospital campus. The relatives of the patients, however, alleged that the junior doctors attacked them following an altercation. They even closed the emergency ward of the hospital as a result of which many patients were denied treatment at the hospital.

The victim’s family members alleged that the patient would not have died had he been attended by the doctors in the hospital. The junior doctors urged for adequate security arrangement for the doctors in the hospital.
