Killer wheels: 4-yr-old crushed under moving school bus

A four-year-old boy died, after he came under the wheels of the school bus he was alighting from. The incident took place at Dariyapur village, in the Bawana area of outer Delhi. The driver of the school bus, identified as 33-year-old Ramesh, has been arrested.
The victim has been identified as Shivam, a student of upper kindergarten at the Vidhya Jyoti Shiksha Sadan school in Bawana.

'The incident was reported at approximately 1 pm when the school bus was dropping the students back from school. While getting down from the bus, Shivam fell and came under the wheels of the bus,' said the police officer investigating the case. 'We screamed to alert the driver, when we saw the child being crushed under the front wheels of the bus, but he paid no attention to us and continued to drive, because of which the back wheels of the bus also rolled over the victim,’ said an eye-witness on condition of anonymity.

'There was nothing to mark the bus as a school bus. Not just the driver, the school authorities are equally responsible for my child’s death,' said the victim’s grandmother.
After the incident, approximately 150 residents of the village protested at the Bawana police station, blaming the driver and the helper for the child’s death. They also accused the school administration of carelessness. The protesters also questioned why the driver wasn’t carrying his license with him.

Rakhi Devi whose son takes the same bus home from school said, 'Why does the school administration keep such untrained drivers. School authorities should pay special attention as least where the conveyance of young children is concerned.’
In a separate incident, a 24-year-old call centre employee was killed in a road accident after his motorcycle rammed into a roadside railing, police said.
Manish, who worked in a call centre in Delhi's Laxmi Nagar area, was going to work when the accident took place in the Geeta Colony area at approximately 9 am.
