Kidnap call: Abducted 11-year-old rescued from Haryana district

An 11-year-old son of a businessman kidnapped from the capital, allegedly by two property dealers for a Rs 1.5 crore ransom, was rescued from Haryana’s Rewari district on Sunday morning, Delhi police said. One of the accused has been arrested.

Harmeet, a Class 6 student, was rescued on Sunday morning from inside a car parked near Rewari Railway Station in Haryana, police said.

According to deputy commissioner of police Alok Kumar, the boy had been kidnapped from near his house in Rajendra Nagar of central Delhi on Saturday evening, when he had gone to buy a mobile recharge coupon.

A Rs 1.5 crore ransom call was made at approximately 6.41 pm on Saturday to the boy’s mother, Jaswinder Kaur. Two more ransom calls were made at 8.30 pm and 11 pm, said a police officer.
'The parents immediately informed us. Ten teams were formed for investigation,' said Alok Kumar.
On the basis of technical surveillance, the location of the ransom caller was established somewhere in Rajasthan. A team laid a trap and ransom caller Harpal Singh Sodhi, 42, a Rajasthan-based property dealer, was arrested late on Saturday night.

Co-accused Harpreet is on the run. He had used Sodhi as a front to make the ransom calls, police said.

Harpreet, who is a property dealer in central Delhi’s Karol Bagh area, played a key role in the crime as he believed that the boy's family was affluent, police said.

He came in contact with the boy’s family after his mother recently asked him to hunt for a shop that they could buy, police said
