Kher, Gupta’s play a hit in the US, Canada

Due to the public demand, yet another sold out show of Mera Woh Matlab Nahi Tha, is being played for the second time in Houston. Mayor, Annise Parker commended the actor’s commitment for providing quality entertainment to the community and, also declared August 7 as Anupam Kher Day.” It makes me feel great. You can rope in audiences on the first night through previous credentials, but it is the play that keeps audiences coming back after that,” the 60-year-old actor said.

A new concept has been employed in the production of this play with the use of multimedia. A large video screen depicts flashbacks and there are even interactive dialogues between the actors on stage and those on the screen.

“It is not a love story, but a story about relationships, misunderstandings and our awkwardness in dealing with the truth. It has universal appeal,” Kher said. “It’s amazing how someone who meant the world to you sometimes turns into merely an acquaintance over time. We often skirt delicate issues by saying Mera Woh Matlab Nahi Tha.”

Kher has also directed a short film, I Went Shopping For Robert De Niro, as a tribute to the veteran actor.
