Khardah blast: Forensic team visits spot

A forensic team on Wednesday night had visited the jewellery shop in Khardah where a blast took place on Tuesday killing an elderly person and collected sample to ascertain the nature of the blast.

The investigating officials are yet to find out the exact cause of the blast. Police are investigating if there was any explosive stored inside the jewellery shop or if a gas cylinder had gone off.

The blast had taken place inside the closed shop situated at Itkhola More of Khardah late Monday night. An elderly person was killed after being hit by the shutter of a jewellery shop which was blown up due to the intensity of the blast. The incident took place when the victim was taking a stroll in the area after having his dinner.

After hearing the screams of the victim, the local people rushed to the spot and found that the victim was lying in a pool of blood.

The victim was declared brought dead after being taken to a nearby hospital. The victim had received injuries on his head.

Initially the police thought that it might have been a cylinder blast but the forensic experts did not get any solid evidence that the blast was caused following the blowing off of a cylinder.

After starting an investigation the police have already arrested the owner of the shop and the supplier of gas cylinder in this connection. After examining the nature and the intensity of the blast, the forensic team is not ruling out the possibility of some explosives being stored inside the shop.

A police picket has been set up at the area as tension still prevails in the area.

Police also suspect that the explosives could have been stored inside the shop by some miscreants. Group clashes often take place in the area. Police are interrogating the owner of the shop in this connection.
