Khalsa to teach ‘media dealing’ in forensic science

BTech (Forensic Science) set to be taught in SGTB Khalsa College from the upcoming academic session will have a separate session on ‘media dealing’ which will teach students how to handle media personnel at the crime scene.

The chapter will be a part of subject – Crime Scene Management in which students will be taught how to gather evidence from the crime spot and not be rude to media and onlookers.

GS Sodhi, coordinator of Forensic Science Unit in Khalsa College, informed Millennium Post that there is pressure on forensic experts to gather the evidence and not let the onlookers spoil the crime spot. ‘In an attempt to show breaking news first, sometimes the journalists spoil the crime scene and it become impossible for the experts to collect original evidence. There is an additional pressure on forensic experts to deal with such people. In the chapter we will teach students how to deal with the pressure and not let journalists and onlookers affect the crime spot’, said Sodhi.

He also added that in foreign countries like Australia and USA, there is a command post to deal with the media. Other major subjects like Anthropology, Forensic Medicine, Forensic Psyhology, DNA Forensics, etc will also be taught during the four-year course. Khalsa is the first college in the university which will have an undergraduate level course in B Tech (Forensic Science).
