Kewal Sharma takes charge as Chief Secy

Kewal Kumar Sharma, an IAS officer of the 1983 batch, on Monday, assumed charge of Chief Secretary of Delhi government.

“Education and health will be my priority,” said Sharma. He has served on various posts in the Delhi government and civic bodies. He was Joint Secretary (Home) in erstwhile Delhi Administration (1989 to 1991); Commissioner (Housing) in DDA and was Project Director of Dwarka Sub-City (1991 to 1996). He also served as Principal Secretary in the Public Works Department (PWD) of Delhi government from 2008-11. He was Secretary (Transport and Urban Development) with Govt of Goa (1997 to 1999); he also undertook the foreign assignments in United Nations (1999 to 2005).

Sharma was posted as the Commissioner (Finance & PWD) with government of Arunachal Pradesh (2005 to 2008); later, he was posted as adviser to the Administrator, Union Territory of Chandigarh (2011 to 2014). Sharma became the Chief Secretary, Goa in December’14, and was holding office till date.

A bachelor of civil engineering from a regional engineering college Srinagar, Sharma also pursued a Diploma from the International Institute of Public Administration in Paris.
