Kerala minister accused of domestic violence quits

The youth wing of the CPM staged violent protests outside the Kerala assembly over the issue of complaint of domestic violence against state forests minister Ganesh Kumar.

The CPM workers took out a protest march demanding chief minister Oommen Chandy’s resignation accusing him of misleading the assembly on the issue.

The protesters turned violent and clashed with the police. Ganesh Kumar submitted his resignation to Chandy late on Monday night after his estranged wife, Yamini Thankachi, accused him of assaulting her and lodged a complaint with the police.

But the news of resignation did little to calm the opposition. Inside the assembly, there were angry scenes over the way the chief minister had handled the complaint of the wife of his former cabinet colleague KB Ganesh Kumar.
