Karuna’s wife, daughter, A Raja chargesheeted

  

The ED, in the chargesheet filed before a CBI trial court on Friday, named former telecom minister A Raja, DMK supremo Karunanidi's wife Dayalu Ammal, his daughter Kanimozhi and 16 others, alleging Rs 200 crores was paid by Swan Telecom Private Ltd (STPL), using their group entity Dynamix Realty to DMK-run Kalaignar TV (KTV) through a circuitous route.

In addition to the CBI charge sheet, ED has charged two more individuals and eight more companies, for the offence of money laundering under the provisions of section 3 of Prevention of Money Laundering Act (PMLA), 2002. Dayalu Ammal was holding 60 per cent stake in Kalaignar TV while Kanimozhi and Sharad Kumar each were holding 20 per cent stake. The ED had earlier also scrutinized documents related to both the DMK MPs incomes, properties and personal investments. It had also initiated attachment proceedings under PMLA against other individuals and certain telecom firms involved in the case.

'The investigation under PMLA revealed that an amount of Rs 200 crores was paid by promoters of STPL using their group entity Dynamix Reality to KTV, through KFVPL and CFPL in the garb of legitimate financial transaction. Whereas, this payment was illegal gratification for and on behalf of A Raja and his associates in lieu of illegal favours given to STPL for grant of UAS license, ' said NK Matta, counsel for the investigating agency.

'The accused are charged under section 3 of PMLA Act and offence of money laundering is punishable under section 4 of PMLA in which imprisonment shall not be less than three years or may be extended to seven years,' he added.

The court has reserved 30 April to consider the charges. ED has said that the projection of tainted money as untainted was done by the accused person. Firstly when the money flowed from Dynamix Reality to KTV and again when the money flowed back from KTV to Dynamix Reality. Apart from STPL, the companies alleged for the offence by agencies are Kusegaon Realty Pvt. Ltd., Cineyug Media and Entertainment Pvt. Ltd., Kalaignar TV Pvt. Ltd., Dynamix Realty, Eversmile Construction Company Private Limited, Conwood Construction and Developers (P) Ltd., DB Realty Ltd. Nihar Construction Pvt. Ltd.
