Kanpur reels under 7-8 hr power cuts, MP Joshi calls meeting

Amidst the temperature touching the 45-degree mark in the city, Kanpur's problem has been compounded by frequent power cuts with over two dozens of transformers lying dysfunctional.

Spike in the power demand in last few days have rendered transformers dysfunctional, electricity department said.

According to the department, two hours of power outage each in the morning and evening has been decided for the city, but people are complaining of three-to-four times more cuts in certain areas.

Unannounced power cuts of seven to eight hours everyday have badly affected business outlets in the city. The common man's biggest problem is in getting water, BJP Kanpur president Surendra Maithani said.

He informed that Kanpur MP Murali Manohar Joshi would convene a meeting of the department's officials, city MLAs and district administration on June 12 to address the issue.

Maithani slammed the Samajwadi party led state government for doing nothing about the issue despite the fact that five SP MLAs, two of them ministers, represent the city.
