Kamduni rape trial hearing concludes

The hearing in the trial of rape and murder of a college student concluded before a designated court here on Tuesday and the verdict would be pronounced on January 28.

The gangrape and brutal murder of a 21-year-old college girl occurred when she was returning home at Kamduni, about 50km from Kolkata, in North 24-Parganas district after appearing at an examination at her college on June 7, 2013.

The incident had led to an outrage in the state amidst concerns over women's safety. Submissions before Additional District Sessions judge Sanchita Sarkar by counsel of the eight accused in the case and the public prosecutor concluded, following which the judge stated that the order would be passed on January 28, 2016. Of the total nine accused in the case, one died in custody during trial.
