K V Thomas releases book

K V Thomas, leading educationist, institution builder and policy maker of our country  released his book in New Delhi on Thursday. The book is a collection of 40 speeches delivered by him in recent years.

During the last two years, Thomas has provided outstanding leadership to the work of the Ministry of Agriculture. From early 2011, he has been functioning as Minister of State (Independent Charge) in the Ministry of Consumer Affairs, Food and Public Distribution.

Starting with the Kerala model of ‘development with a human face’, the book covers a wide range of issues in the field of agriculture, food security, research and education, climate change and Ayurveda. Each of the lectures included in this book contains a wealth of information and ideas relevant to both public policy and development action.

The paper on increasing the productivity and profitability of small farms through the Rashtriya Krishi Vikas Yojana is a timely one, since one of our urgent tasks is bridging the gap between potential and actual yields prevailing in most cropping systems.  Another paper deals with climate change and in particular the vulnerability of small islands to climate change induced rise in sea level. His more recent lectures have dealt with issues such as public distribution system, food safety and the rights of the consumers.
