Retired SC judge and West Bengal Human Rights Commission chairman Ashok Ganguly tendered his resignation as guest lecturer of the National University of Juridical Sciences (NUJS) stating he had decided to ‘opt out’ from the post.
‘I have sent my resignation letter to the NUJS authorities today,’ said Justice Ganguly on Friday. The move came after NUJS vice-chancellor P Iswara Bhat said that the university has already dissociated from Justice Ganguly after he was indicted by the SC-appointed panel for alleged sexual harassment of a law intern, a former student of the institute.
On 25 December, 12 faculty members of NUJS had written to Bhat demanding that the institute should dissociate itself from Justice Ganguly. ‘Some members of the faculty were expressing their reservation about my continuation. So I have sent my resignation today,’ Ganguly said.
‘I have read about it (cabinet clearance of presidential reference) in newspapers. What can I say about it? The development of events is not in my hand. I haven’t decided anything and would prefer to stay quiet,’ he added.
