JU research fellows demand minimum salary, begin hunger strike

Research fellows of Jadavpur University started a hunger strike inside the university campus with a demand to make them permanent and also demanding a minimum salary.

Around 14 research fellows have joined strike in front of Aurobinda Bhavan.

They threatened to go for an indefinite strike if their demands were not met.

It is a long standing demand of the contractual research fellows to get a minimum salary.

As they did not get any assurances from the university authorities they have called the hunger strike to mount pressure on the authorities.

A research fellow who joined the strike said that they had no option other than going on a strike 

as the university authorities were not paying any heed to their long standing demands and they would continue with the strike.
