JU officials’ permission also required to organise events in Triguna Sen auditorium

From now on the permission of the Jadavpur University authorities will also be required to organise any programme at Triguna Sen Auditorium. Vice Chancellor Suranjan Das held a meeting with the representatives of the alumni association on Tuesday and it had been decided that one need to inform the university authorities to organise any programme in the auditorium. 

The auditorium will be given on rent only after a discussion between the university authorities and representatives of the alumni association. Till date only the permission of the alumni association was needed to hold any programme in the auditorium. But the recent uproar in the varsity had taken place as the permission given to Akhil Bharatiya Vidyarthi Parishad (ABVP), BJP’s students’ wing workers to screen the movie “Buddha in a Traffic Jam” was cancelled at the last moment and the organisers had made arrangement to screen the movie inside the campus.

On Monday, ABVP held a rally protesting against the cancellation of the permission to screen the movie. The rally from Golpark to Jadavpur police station police held at around 4.30 pm. The demonstrators tried to break the security barricades when they were restricted to march forward near Jadavpur police station. Police were sent to a tizzy as on one side ABVP supporters were shouting slogans while on the other side some students of the university were staging demonstration.

Das called on the Chancellor Keshari Nath Tripathi on Tuesday morning and held a meeting for around one and a half hour.
