Joyprakash Majumder sent to three-day police custody

BJP Vice President Joyprakash Majumder was remanded to three days police custody on Sunday. Majumder, who was arrested by the Bidhannagar City Police on Saturday evening on the charge of criminal breach of trust and criminal conspiracy, was produced before the Additional Chief Judicial Magistrate Court.

Majumder, allegedly took money from those students and their relatives, who appeared in different teachers’ recruitment examination. He allegedly promised those students of solving their problems in court and took around 7.2 lakh from them. He even allegedly promised to give them the job by taking a ‘back route’.

However, the accused said he is innocent. “I am innocent. The complainant is not a candidate of the examination. How did he file the complaint?” Majumder alleged during his departure for the police custody from the court.

Majumder’s daughter also alleged that it is a political conspiracy against her father. “I know the people who conspired this. It is an example of political vendetta. These people did this to demean my father,” she said adding that her father went to police station to discuss the issue with police officers. He was kept waiting for seven long hours and then the interrogation started. They arrested him after one house interrogation.

Majumder’s lawyer alleged that the complainant, Arup Ratan Roy is not the candidate. There is nobody in the merit list with such name.

He also alleged the expense of running a case in Supreme Court and Calcutta High Court is huge. The complainants are claimed that there were no such case proceeded in the Supreme Court. But they do not know it, but a case was filed there.

The complainant Arup Ratan Roy alleged, that they filed FIR against Majumder on behalf of ‘Sangram Mancha’. There were many people, protesting against state government to get teaching job under the banner of ‘Samgram Mancha’. Candidates, their relatives and even friends were there.

“It is true that I am not candidate. My name was not in the list. My brother was candidate. But I paid money to Majumder to give my brother justice. Now when we learnt that he forged us, we lodged complaint against him. It is our right,” Roy alleged.

The public prosecutor alleged that Majumder took money from those candidates after promising them, jobs. He promised to file a case in court on behalf of them. But he did nothing. He did not even return money. It is now important to further interrogate them.

Police source said Majumder was taken to the police lock up on Saturday night. He slept on the floor of the lock up after a prolonged interrogation late at night.

Senior BJP leader Rahul Sinha reacted sharply on the arrest and police custody of Majumder. “Why was he called up at the police station after such a long time? It seems Trinamool Congress government is taking revenge against us. CBI arrested their MPs. They arrested our party leader. But it should be noted that CBI is only following Supreme Court’s direction. The police here are following Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee’s direction,” Sinha alleged.
