Joka BBD Bag Metro project to begin soon

The Calcutta Electric Supply Corporation (CESC) has given a go ahead for the Joka BBD Bag Metro project. A meeting was held with the principal secretary ( transport) Alapan Bandopadhyay  to resolve the impasse. Senior officials  of the transport department and  their counterparts in CESC  were present in the meeting to resolve the impasse  over construction  at Taratala. It was found  that the alignment of metro railway was situated within 1.5 m proximity from the office of CESC. A team from IIT Kharagpur will study and give suggestions  about the measures that should be taken to save the building  from getting damaged. It was decided that the recommendations of the IIT experts will be  followed.  As the  problems have been ironed out at the meeting it is going to expedite the project. The fund allocation  for  Joka BBD Bag Metro has  gone upto Rs 90 crore form  70 crore.  The buildings between  Taratala and Majerhat  have been pulled down to facilitate  the project. The Army has also agreed in principle to allow setting up of underground  track at Maidan.
