JNU student raped by AISA activist in hostel room, no arrest yet

A 28-year-old Jawaharlal Nehru University (JNU) student was allegedly raped by another student, an activist of Left wing student’s organisation All India Students’ Association (AISA), in a hostel room on Saturday. The accused is yet to be arrested, police said.

The police said the incident was reported on Sunday when the victim, a final-year PhD student, alleged that the accused, Anmol Ratan, a student at JNU, raped her in his hostel room.

In a Facebook post in June, she had stated that she wanted to watch a film titled ‘Sairat’ and asked if anyone had a copy. She alleged that Ratan sent her a text message on her phone regarding the same and asked her to collect it from him.

She added that on Saturday Ratan met her on the pretext of giving her the film’s copy. He took her to his room at the Brahamputra hostel, where he allegedly offered her some sedative-laced drinks. After consuming the drinks, the victim fell unconscious and Ratan allegedly sexually assaulted her.

She told the police that Ratan even threatened her of dire consequences if she reported about the incident. Somehow she managed to escape his room.

The victim filed an FIR against Ratan at the Vasant Kunj (North) police station on Sunday.
