JNU PhD scholar accused of raping student, on the run

The PhD scholar, who has been accused of repeatedly raping a 25-year-old student of Jawaharlal Nehru University on pretext of marriage, remained absconding even a day after the case was registered.
According to the victim, the accused (name withheld) was known to her and used to come to her hostel often. The accused, who is also a research scholar in the university and hails from Patna, has allegedly promised the student to marry her in near future.
The victim told police that the scholar developed physical relationship with her on pretext of marriage. ‘He forced me to develop physical relations with him in my hostel room and his flat in Munirka on various occasions,’ her statement says. She has also claimed that she had complained about it earlier as well but no FIR was filed by the police.
