JKNPP petitions Governor to cancel Assembly elections

Jammu and Kashmir National Panthers Party on Friday demanded Governor NN Vohra to cancel the recently-held assembly elections in the state, claiming that the polls were held in violation of a Supreme Court judgment. “It would be in the best interest of the state that the Governor may please recommend the cancellation of the recently -held assembly elections in the state. We have moved a petition to him in this regard,” JKNPP Chief Bhim Singh told reporters here. Singh alleged that the elections in the state were held in violation of the Supreme Court judgment of October 8, 2013. “The apex court, in its judgment, had directed the Union government and the Election Commission of India to hold the elections by providing paper trail facilities in the EVMs to be used for poll,” he said.
