JK Tyre rides on sports event to brand new product

Jetracing, the first-ever truck racing tyre in India from JK Tyre, took India’s first ever truck racing event — the T1 Prima Truck Racing Championship — by storm. Coming from the pioneers of Truck Radials in India, JK Tyre had developed and designed the new truck racing tyres especially for this event.  The combination of the Prima trucks of Tata Motors fitted with Jet Racing received an overwhelming response from participants and excited onlookers and has definitely brought in a revolution in the Indian racing scenario.

The T1 Prima Racing Trucks, equipped with the JK Tyre truck racing tyres, were designed to meet the most grueling braking conditions of a racing circuit. The tyres, which amount up to a size of 315/80R22.5, can take the speed up to an excess of 150 kmph and have been designed using the technology of asymmetric tread pattern for excelling handling on a dry pavement.

Its asymmetric shoulder drop with a rounded outer shoulder enables very good cornering and lateral stability while its shallow circumferential grooves with optimized groove sections provide excellent head dissipation. In addition, the tyres’ optimised belt package, in terms of lay and angle, deliver excellent tread stiffness that enhances the steering and handling ability of the vehicle.

Made of a tread compound design that gives an exceptional grip and braking performance on the racing track, the tyres ensure that the vehicle is in control even during the most intense stages of a race. They have a specially designed inner layer that facilitates excellent air retention.

Steve Horne, British Truck Racing Association organiser and development driver for the Prima T1 Race trucks, said, ‘We are very happy with JK Tyre. They have built a fantastic tyre for us — rugged and reliable, good compound, grippy, working very well.’

British racer Stuart Oliver, a ten-time British Truck Racing Championship, won the inaugural T1 Prima Racing Championship with a time of 30:26:848 minutes. Commenting on Jetracing, he said, “The tyres’ performance was really good. The entire combination of the machine and the tyres was really commendable.”

Grahan Powell, 2010 BTRA division 2 champion, said, ‘We have all got the same tyres and the racing has been very close because of this. We all crossed the lines within four seconds of each other, which is terrific. The trucks are good, the tyres are good. It’s been fantastic.’

Veteran BTRA driver Paul McCumisky, who has raced since 1986, said, ‘The Prima responds and turns in well and I think the JK tyres have helped it around the circuit quite a lot. It wasn’t till the last couple of laps that the tyres started going off.’

Delighted with the success of the first-ever truck racing championship, JK Tyre & Industries Ltd President & Director A  K Bajoria said, ‘We at JK Tyre are proud to have received a positive response from the racers for India’s first truck racing tyre. With the successful debut of Truck Racing in India, we are confident that our partnership with the much revered sport will be a long and healthy one. This, of course, is another step forward for us in our endeavor to further strengthen Motorsports in India.’
