Jilted lover’s sister arrested for attempt to murder

A day after a 21-year-old girl was allegedly pushed off from the balcony of her second floor house by her jilted lover for refusing to accept his marriage proposal in Outer Delhi’s Mangolpuri area on Monday evening, Delhi Police on Wednesday arrested the sister of the lover, Manju from her residence in Uttam Nagar on charges of attempt to murder under IPC Section 307. Sources said that the girl is undergoing treatment at Baba Saheb Ambedkar hospital where she is stated to be stable.

The incident took place at around 6 pm on Monday evening at the Avantika Enclave apartments where the jilted lover, Amit (25), allegedly pushed the girl from her second floor house. Sources said that Amit had befriended the girl, a beautician, on social networking site, Facebook, one-and-a-half years ago.

Police further said that on Monday evening, Amit along with his sister, Manju, another sister and their son, forcefully entered the girl’s house to convince her to get married to Amit or pay Rs 1 lakh to them. While the girl went near the refrigerator to get a glass of water for them, Amit along with Manju allegedly went up to her and pushed her off from the balcony.

Amit and the girl became friends on Facebook and hence exchanged numbers and started talking over phone. They allegedly entered into a relationship. When the girl told her parents about Amit, they told her that they will carry out a background check on him only after which they will agree to get her married to Amit.

Sources further said that in the background check, the girl’s family found that he was unemployed and was not of a good temperament. Due to which, the girl too stopped talking to him.

For the past six months, on her family’s insistence, the girl was not in touch with Amit. However, Amit was allegedly putting pressure on her to get married.
