Jilted lover kills woman, ends life

A middle-aged man committed suicide by jumping out from the balcony of a lodge at Naihati in North 24-Parganas after killing the woman with whom he had an affair, police said on Sunday.

According to police, the duo came to the hotel on Saturday morning in some other names.
The man Atul Sen used to work in a computer shop at Sealdah while the woman Arati Gayen, who had registered her name as Priya Sen in the register of the hotel, used to work as an attended at Ballygunge. Both were residents at Harinavi in Sonarpur.

Preliminary investigation revealed that both of them had left home on Saturday morning saying that
they were going to work. But they met at Sealdah station and reached Naihati by train. They often used to the visit the place, thus the manager of the hotel allowed them to stay without much questioning and going through their documents.

They had boarded a room situated on the second floor of the hotel on Barrackpore-Kalyani highway.
Police came to know after questioning an employee of the hotel that they had not come out of their room even for once. They had not even ordered any food.

Suddenly, the workers of the hotel heard a loud sound and rushed to the narrow passage behind the hotel and found Atal’s body lying in a pool of blood. He had jumped from the second floor balcony and died on the spot. The workers immediately rushed to the room and found the woman’s body. Her throat was slit with a sharp weapon.

Police went to the spot and sent the body for an autopsy. A computer printed suicide note was recovered from the room in which Atul mentioned that he had decided to commit suicide after killing Arati as there had been some misunderstanding going on between them for the past few months.
Police recovered the knife that was used to kill Arati. The hotel has been sealed. A team comprising scientists from State Forensic Science Laboratory will visit the spot on Monday. The police are going through the footages of surveillance cameras.

The police have also contacted family members of both the victims.
