Jilted lover gets life in jail for killing woman’s husband
Additional Sessions Judge Kamini Lau awarded the jail term to Atul Sharma, an Uttar Pradesh resident, who fatally attacked the woman’s husband with carpentry tools and an axe here last year “to pave the way for his marriage with her”.

“The prosecution has been able to prove the allegations against the accused Atul Sharma of having committed the murder of the woman’s husband,” the judge said.

The court also imposed a fine of Rs 1 lakh on the accused and directed that the amount be given to brother or guardian of the deceased as compensation.

The court also referred the matter to Delhi Legal Service Authority for further compensation to the brother or guardians of the woman’s husband under Victim Compensation Scheme.

While convicting Atul, the court relied on the postmortem report of the man which revealed that his liver had been fragmented into pieces.

“The extent of force used upon the deceased is evident from the fact that the liver was fragmented into multiple pieces and in order to ensure that his crime does not come to light, he himself along with his brothers took the man to the hospital claiming that he had fallen on the saw machine while working and was declared brought dead,” it said.

The court said that the case could not be put on the same pedestal as other ordinary murder cases but at the same time it also did not fall within the category of rarest of rare case.

The court, while delivering the judgement also said that the case could not be put on the same pedestal as other ordinary murder cases but at the same time it also did not fall within the category of rarest of rare case.
