Jewellery worth lakhs goes missing from bank locker

Gold ornaments worth lakhs of rupees were found missing from Allahabad Bank locker at Bhupen Basu Avenue here.

The matter came to light on October 9 when Jyotimay Basu and Sikha Basu, residents of Gopimohan Dutta Lane in Shyambazar, went to the branch to collect the ornaments for their daughter’s marriage.
The couple was shocked when they came to know that their locker was handed over to some other person. When the couple asked about the ornaments which they kept in the locker, the bank manager said they found the locker empty when they opened it.

Both Jyotimay and Sikha were holding an account at the same branch since 25 years. The manager said they took such step as Jyotimay failed to pay the locker’s rent since 8 years.

According to bank authority, after sending three letters, they failed to get any response from Jyotimay. However, Jyotimay said he had been staying at Gopimohan Dutta Lane since 20 years. Before, he used to stay at Acharya Prafulla Chandra Road. He also updated his new address at the same branch.
