Jewellery, Rs 1 lakh cash robbed from lawyer’s house

Unidentified miscreants decamped with valuables from the residence of a lawyer at Chatterjee haat in Howrah late on Saturday night, police said.

Police said the lawyer Nanda Banerjee went to her relative’s house along with her family members a few days ago. After returning home, she found clothes and utensils were strewn all over the rooms.

Later she found that a door at the back side of her house was broken. Police suspect that the miscreants had broken the door and entered the house.

They broke cupboards and decamped with jewellery and Rs 1 lakh cash. Banerjee, who is a lawyer of Howrah Court, lodged a complaint with the police. Policemen from Chatterjee haat police station went to the spot and initiated a probe. Police are, however, yet to arrest anyone in this connection.

A police officer said someone from the locality was involved with the miscreants and he had given a tip-off that Banerjee and her family will not be there in the house.

Police said the miscreants must have taken preparation before committing the crime.
