Jayalalithaa plays safe, doesn’t ‘intentionally’ go against BJP

Many feel that in recent weeks Jayalalithaa has developed a good political equation with its Prime Ministerial candidate Narendra Modi. Though she has decided to fight alone in the Lok Sabha election by having no alliance with the BJP, party sources said, she might consider Modi after the declaration of poll results.

The ground realties in Tamilnadu seem to be a gaining ground for the BJP. No big political leaders including Jayalalithaa, apart from the Congress leaders, had spoken against the party or made derogatory speeches in recent times — especially after the declaration poll schedule.

The favorable condition became more visibly following the leaders of DMDK and the MDMK support to the BJP. ‘The ‘Congress concerned’ might not be a worrying factor for us because they became marginalize and left to save their own seats,’ a BJP source said. The expected ‘bonhomie’ with Modi became more evident after Jayalalithaa in the past described him as a good friend. Not the least, the BJP has another big reason to smile after DMK veteran M Karunanidhi said that Modi’s continuous campaign reveals he is a hard worker. ‘Modi is my good friend,’ he said.

Karunanidhi is a hard core rival of Jayalalithaa but praises for Modi coming from the two strong leaders in Tamilnadu is definitely giving a strong signal that the BJP might get some ‘unofficially’ expected friends when it will come to form the government.

Sources said, ‘Jayalalithaa will reveal her actual cards only after BJP manages to get a large number of seats across the nation. Her opportunist stand is very clear and even her party workers are claiming that she might support only after having a negotiation with the party over several Tamil issues in India as well as in Sri Lanka.’

On the context of DMK, he said, ‘It is likely that DMK will not have a pre poll alliance with the BJP.’
