Jats a well-to-do community, many don’t want reservation

The ongoing Jat quota agitation has created tension and crippled normalcy in Haryana and many areas of the National Capital Region (NCR), but there are some people of the community in West Delhi's Matiala Village who are against reservation.

They also carried out a peaceful protests against the demand being made by their community members, saying that they do not need reservation, in West Delhi areas. They condemned the protestors for indulging in violent activities for the sake of reservation.

Vikas Dahia, a theatre artiste and co-owner of an institute, is the organiser of the peaceful protests, which were carried out in West Delhi areas on Sunday. “Jats come from a prosperous community. You will hardly find a Jat who is poor in national Capital. They are having good earning sources, numbers of cars and running their own business. There is no logic to demand reservation for such community.”

“We need to stop this madness of violence. In case they need reservation, they must demand it peacefully. I feel that reservation is against the spirit of the 'Right to Equality' bestowed on citizens by our Constitution. I believe that in stead of reservation, the government must provide subsidy to people coming from the economic weaker section of the society and the physical challenged. This will work better for the society,” he added.

Dahia said he has been getting support from his community members, but most of the people are opposing him and have even threatened him with dire consequences. “Some people have set properties, belonging to people from the lower caste, on fire in Haryana. The situation will worsen and become even more dangerous if the agitation reaches Uttar Pradesh. It might also lead to communal clashes in sensitive areas,” he added.

Dahia and his friends have also launched an awareness on social networking sites urging people belonging to the community to calm down and resort to a peaceful way of protest.
