Jat agitation: VAT relief for traders who incurred losses

Haryana Government on Wednesday decided in-principle to give relief in Value Added Tax (VAT) to those traders and businessmen who suffered losses during the recent Jat quota agitation in the state.
A decision to this effect was taken in a meeting of the State Cabinet which met under the chairmanship of Chief Minister Manohar Lal Khattar here.

The Cabinet also decided that the Excise and Taxation Department would formulate the modalities with regard to relief in VAT and other taxes, if any, an official spokesman said here. Parts of Haryana recently saw large scale arson and violence during the Jat quota agitation. Meanwhile, Haryana Chief Minister Manohar Lal Khatar while presiding over a meeting with representatives of insurance companies said those whose insured properties were damaged during the recent incidents in the state be provided interim relief within a week and their claims processed within 15 days from the day they apply for the same.

The Chief Minister asked the insurance companies to be sensitive while taking up the claim cases of the victims and dispose of the same within a time bound manner.

Finance Minister Capt Abhimanyu, who was also present in the meeting, directed the representatives of the Insurance Companies to remain in constant touch with their offices situated in Delhi so as to ensure quick disposal of claim cases falling in the National Capital Region (NCR) area so that the victims could get compensation without any inconvenience.

The Chief Minister informed in the meeting that 330 people have so far applied to the insurance companies for the claims on account of damage to their property and the claim amount is about Rs 70 crore, an official spokesman said.
