Janpath Metro station to have retail outlets, eateries cafes

The Janpath Metro station will soon have retail outlets, eateries and coffee shops with the Delhi Metro Rail Corporation (DMRC) leasing out space on existing stations for massive property development. The move will give commuters more options to shop and grab a bite while generating additional revenue for the Delhi Metro.

At the newly-constructed Janpath station around 216 Sq meter at gate no 3 and 187 Sq meter at gate no 4 of the station will be allotted for commercial purposes and property development soon.

The Janpath station is part of the 9.37 km Central Secretariat-Kashmere Gate corridor and is the part of the violet line. The station is situated on Janpath lane which is famous for marketing and is in close proximity to Connaught Place, ITO, Dariya Ganj, Pahar Ganj, etc. which is easily accessible by roads, metro trains, trains, etc. Apart from operating facilities for commuters, the station has retail spaces as well.

According to a senior official, the DMRC is working out the details of giving out the space on a 15-year licence. “Cooking by gas bank/ IGL pipe line is not found feasible at underground Janpath station. Only electric oven, hot case microwave, tea/coffee beverage vending machine/ ice cream refrigerator will be allowed. However, frying of any food item is not permitted using oil,” said 
the official.

DMRC said the space available will be suitable for various business propositions. “This station serves a very large tourist section of Delhi. Apart from that, the space being licensed out is eminently suited for a marketing, showroom etc. or even serviced offices,” the official said.

The Janpath Metro station has brought ample relief for the travelers as it eased traffic of Rajiv Chowk whose estimated daily passengers are more than 300,000.
