Jamia residents hand over cops in plainclothes!

A day before Independence Day, a team of armed Delhi police personnel in plain-clothes with AK-47 in their hands carried out a massive raid in Zakir Nagar, the controversial area of Jamia Nagar allegedly to arrest a suspect. However, the local politician-activist Amanatullah Khan foiled the raid and handed over the armed plain-clothed sleuths to the local police who were unaware about the raid.

At about 11.30 am on Thursday, around 15 policemen in their plainclothes reached Jamia Nagar to carry out raid into homes in Gali No. 9 and 12. However, a police source said: ‘The raid was to trace the whereabouts of a man reportedly involved in the recent case in which Delhi Police have recovered a huge cache of blank-firing guns from a car in Dwarka area.’

Speaking to Millennium Post, Khan said: ‘I got a call from a local resident who informed that more than a dozen persons, calling themselves policemen, have raided few houses allegedly to nab an accuse. Reaching the spot I found them entering homes and misbehaving with people.’

He further claimed that Delhi Police might have planned to pick one or two youths from the area and then claim that they are terrorists of banned outfits to gain accolades from the government to avert possible terror strikes in the national Capital.

‘With the help of the locals, we have foiled their conspiracy and handed all of them to the local police station of Jamia Nagar,’ he added. Two Sub-Inspectors, 12 policemen of special staff police posted at south-west district had carried out the raid.

They allegedly carried out the raid to man-hunt one Mausil, a suspect whose whereabouts were yet to be learnt. Mausil is alleged to be involved in supplying the blank firing guns that were recovered by south-west district police. Khan also claimed that the cops have detained one person from the area and were planning to book him under certain terror acts. ‘He was a final year student who was residing in a rented flat in the colony. Just because he hails from Darbangha, he was caught by the officials,’ he added. When the locals intervened, he was released.

The SHO of Jamia Nagar police station said that he was unaware about the raid. ‘When Khan brought the policemen who had raided few homes, they revealed the purpose of their raid, after which they were allowed to continue with it,’ the official said.

Confirming to the information about the raid, Suman Goel, DCP (south-west) said: ‘It is our work to carry out raids in connection to the matters we are investigating.’
