Jamaat-Ul-Mujahideen Bangladesh activist held

Jamaat-Ul-Mujahideen Bangladesh (JMB) activist Ripon Sheikh alias Liton Shiekh alias Lion was arrested from Sabdalpur village, which is situated in the Indo-Bangladesh bordering area in Malda on Friday night.

The investigating wing of the Border Security Force arrested the top leader, whose main task was to circulate fake currency in India, and handed him over to the National Investigation Agency (NIA). He has been brought to the office of the NIA in Kolkata on Saturday morning.

The investigating agencies had come to know about Ripon after interrogating two other members of JMB. Acting on a tip off, the investigating officers conducted a raid and arrested the accused. The 30-year-old Ripon is originally a resident of at Baghchera village in Sovapur. Later he had shifted to Sabdalpur.

The investigating officers came to know after investigation that he often used to go to Bangladesh by crossing the porous border and he used to stay at Chapai in Bangladesh where he had introduced himself as Liton.

It is learnt that Bangladeshi investigating officers had conducted a raid in his house on Thursday night. The investigating officers from Bangladesh had informed their Indian counterpart by that time and he was arrested when he returned to his village in Malda.
