Jaitley asks bureaucrats to give news along with politicians

Minister of Information and Broadcasting, Arun Jaitley on Monday said that the government press releases should be crisp and should contain a lot of facts and figures. Inaugurating a Media Workshop for Government Officers of PIB and Central Ministries in New Delhi. He said there is a large section of readers and viewers who want factual information.

The minister added that the media scenario has changed with the entry of 24X7 television channels and now, they set the agenda for the government to react. Saying that there is a distinction between propaganda and information, he asked the government Media Officers to put out government centric information in reader friendly and easy to understand language. He said it may not find a mention in a prime time debate but it has capacity to reach millions of people through digital media.

Jaitley said now a days, media is interested to know more what is happening in the process of decision making and the Media Officers have to tackle this problem by honest expression of their views. Bimal Julka, Secretary, Information and Broadcasting,  stressed on better coordination between PIB Officers and Joint Secretary level Officers for dissemination of information to the people through Media. He also pointed out the importance of social media which has increased the pace and reach of the information.
