Jaipur Rugs set to produce for National Geographic collection

Under this multi-year agreement, National Geographic and Jaipur Rugs will team up to launch a line of unique and colourful hand-knotted rugs based on images from National Geographic's photographic archive.

The rugs will launch to trade at the spring High Point Market, United States and will be available to consumers through retailers and trading partners in spring 2015.

“For more than a century, National Geographic explorers and photographers have travelled the world to capture stunning images and collect compelling stories,” said Krista Newberry, National Geographic's senior vice president of licensing, North America. “Jaipur Rugs is one of the leaders in the textile industry, and we are excited to work with them to bring some of our incredible photography and artwork to consumers on rugs, pillows and poufs,” she added.

National Geographic's entire net proceeds support vital exploration, conservation, research and education programmes.

“We are excited to collaborate with National Geographic, because it offers an opportunity to express a unique fusion of art forms. Both companies use our own creative mediums to not only capture the world's stories, but also share them through tangible, enduring art forms,” said Asha Chaudhary, CEO, Jaipur Rugs Inc. With a mission to inspire, illuminate and teach, the National Geographic Society is one of the world's largest nonprofit scientific and educational organisations.

The member-supported society, which believes in the power of science, exploration and storytelling to change the world, reaches over 600 million people each month through its media platforms, products and events.
