Jai Ho Democracy is a mainstream film sans the Khans: Om Puri

Veteran actor Om Puri, who will be next seen in Jai Ho Democracy, says the political comedy is as mainstream as any other ‘masala’ film – just that it’s without any of the celebrity Khans of tinsel town.

Talking about Jai Ho Democracy, Om said: “These kind of films have small budgets, but I want to tell you all that it’s a mainstream film. It’s just that there are no Khans in this film.”

He assures us that the movie has “all the masala” that a mainstream Hindi film has.
The film takes a comic look at how the powers-that-be continue to procrastinate and maintain status
quo, unfazed by the gravity of the situations at hand.

It also explores the funny side of how the media gets desperate in highlighting unworthy issues, apart from giving a message of hope for peace between two neighbouring countries.

Hopeful that the movie will gain through word of mouth, he said: “Such a film will have an affect on only a few people. But even if it makes a 10 percent difference (in society), then one feels it is in the right track. Such films should be made for the better.”The movie has been written and directed by Ranjit Kapoor.
