ITI student murder: CID interrogates all six accused

In a bid to reconstruct the plot of the murder of the ITI student at Diamond Harbour in South 24-Parganas, the Criminal Investigation Department (CID) on Sunday interrogated all the six accused face-to-face at Bhawani Bhavan here.

Six people including the prime accused Tapas Mallick, were brought to the CID headquarters at Bhawani Bhavan on Sunday afternoon and interrogated till late night.

Sources said that several questions were put forward to them when they were interrogated individually.

Claiming themselves innocent, almost all the accused had tried to make the investigating officers believe that someone else from the mob had put pressure on the victim’s family members to give money and didn’t allow them to take the youth to hospital.  The accused during interrogation claimed that their names were given in the FIR just to take revenge of an old rivalry.

The investigating officers, however, were not ready to accept the explanations given by the accused during interrogation and decided to interrogate them face-to-face.

During the interrogation, all five accused were asked about the role of Mallick on that night. All of them said that he had reached the spot when the body was taken near the premises of a local club where he was mercilessly beaten up. Mallick was interrogated overnight in Diamond Harbour police station on Saturday. During the interrogation, he told the police that he was not involved in asking money from the relatives of the victim.

Sources said that one of the six arrested persons had said that they had never realised that the youth will die. An officer has told that they are trying to reconstruct the plot at the same time the questioning is on to get information about the four other accused, who are still at large.
