ITBP jawan beaten up in Howrah

A jawan of Indo-Tibetan Border Police (ITBP) was beaten up after he refused to give money to some local goons for consuming alcohol. The incident occurred at Bagnan in Howrah on Friday night.

Police said that the victim, Sudipto Chakraborty was badly beaten up by some goons late Friday night. Some local goons demanded money from the victim. As the latter refused to pay them the amount, they pounced on him. The victim received injuries in this incident and taken to a nearby health centre for treatment.

Police are yet to arrest the accused in this connection. In the course of investigation, police came to know that one Madan Ghosh and some of his associates were acquainted with the victim. When Chakraborty along with one of his friends was returning home on Friday night, the accused stopped his way near Mankud More at Bagnan. They demanded money from him as they wanted to booze. As Chakraborty denied paying the amount to Ghosh and his associates, a quarrel broke out between the two groups. The miscreants overpowered the victim and started beating him up. His friend was also injured in the incident when he tried to save him from the clutches of the accused.

After hearing the screams of the victim, the local people rushed to the spot and took the victim to a nearby health centre. The doctors in the hospital said that the injuries were serious. On the basis of the complaint, the police have started an investigation. They conducted raids at various parts to nab the culprits who fled the spot immediately after the incident.
