Irrigation Minister inaugurates new administrative building in Malda

state Irrigation Minister Rajib Banerjee on Friday inaugurated a new administrative building of the department in Malda for better supervision of the work in the district.

It may be mentioned that during the erstwhile Left Front government, the chief engineer of the department for Malda had his office at Salt Lake. Finding it impossible to supervise and undertake any project properly in Malda by remaining seated in Kolkata, the state government had set up an office of such officials in the district itself soon after the change of guard in the state.

Last year Banerjee had laid the foundation stone of a new building to carry out the administrative work of the irrigation department in Malda. The construction work of the building has been completed and today the minister inaugurated the building.

At the same time he held a meeting with the officials of his department in Malda and took a note on the status of the ongoing projects. He has also given direction to the officials to try their level best to complete the ongoing projects and to initiate the work of sanctioned projects within February 20 to 22.

There are several ongoing projects in Malda that include work to check erosion, construction of embankment and repairing of lock gates. Inclusive cost of the ongoing and sanctioned projects in Malda is around 40 crore. He has also discussed about the two projects of Malda of which Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee will lay stone within a few days.

Banerjee went to Harishchandrapur to check the status of a project after inaugurating the building.
