IRCTC breaks all records: 5.80L tickets booked in single day

The earlier highest was on 2 September 2013 when it booked 5.72 lakh e-tickets.

Presently, the site books more than 4.63 lakh tickets with an average of 9.47 lakh passengers daily as against 3.85 lakh tickets with 6.86 lakh passengers booked daily during 2013 i.e. a 20 per cent increase in the number of tickets and a 38 per cent increase in the number of passengers. All these translate into a present daily transaction of more than Rs. 53 crore as against Rs. 37 crore in 2013 – all of which make www.irctc.co.in one of the biggest e-commerce sites in the world.

IRCTC, in its endeavor to give its users a better experience and book more tickets, has taken a slew of measures and invested crores of rupees in enhancing the concurrent connection to its Firewall, upgrading its servers, enhancing/augmenting the Software licenses and Storage Area Network.

Continuing with its efforts to extend more facilities to passengers, to improve service and to reduce the traffic and unnecessary hits during the peak hours, IRCTC has recently launched ‘IRCTC Lite’ during tatkal period i.e. 10 am to 12pm. Every day, this service is now effective from 9:30 am.

In this effort, IRCTC removed all the links, images, ads, services, features which are not helping or not required at the time of premium tatkal ticket booking.

And this paid dividend in the form of increased number of booking during the Tatkal period. In the first hour of Tatkal booking (10 am-11 am) the earlier average booking before the introduction of the ‘IRCTC Lite’ was around 48,000 tickets, which has now jumped to more than 58,000. It has even touched record hourly (1000-1100 hrs) bookings of 70,661, 71,754 and 71,225 on 2nd, 16th and 23rd February 2014 respectively.

The earlier two hourly (10 am-12 pm) Tatkal booking average was around 83,000 tickets, which has now become more than 92,000 with the IRCTC Lite. It has even crossed 1,00,000 booking on more than ten occasions with the introduction of IRCTC Lite with the highest being 1,05,000 tickets on 10 February 2014.
