IPS officer part of 2G scam probe in CBI sent back to cadre

Senior IPS officer Santosh Rastogi, who has been in the CBI’s probe team for the 2G spectrum case, was on Wednesday sent back to his cadre state Maharashtra before the completion of his tenure.

The approval of the competent authority is conveyed to the “premature repatriation” of Rastogi to his parent cadre to avail promotion as Inspector General, an order issued by Department of Personnel and Training (DoPT) said, citing a service rule. Officers on central deputation may opt to revert to their state cadres if their turn for promotion to a higher rank is reached there, the rule says.

Rastogi is a 1998-batch IPS officer of the Maharashtra cadre and currently posted as Deputy Inspector General in the CBI here. Last May, he was given a one-year extension as DIG, CBI. Rastogi’s name had come in public domain after lawyer Prashant Bhushan had petitioned in the Supreme Court against his transfer to Intelligence Bureau in 2014.
