International girl trafficking kingpin arrested

In a major breakthrough, the Siliguri police arrested the kingpin of an international girl trafficking racket from Gurgaon with the help of Haryana police. On Tuesday, the accused Gagan Burma was brought to Siliguri on transit remand, a senior police officer said.

An investigation revealed that Burma had been operating the racket for the past 12 years and he had his network spread all over India and neighboring countries including Nepal and Bangladesh.
His name had popped up after repeated incidents of girl trafficking from different parts of North Bengal.

The Siliguri police had conducted raids at different places in Haryana, Rajasthan, Gujarat and Mumbai in search of Gagan but he had always managed to flee before the police raid. This time the officers of Siliguri police and Haryana police conducted a joint raid after receiving a tip off and arrested him. A police officer said that a few days ago a member of another girl trafficking racket was arrested from South 24-Parganas by the Criminal Investigation Department (CID). He was connected with many such rackets and police came to know about Gagan from him.

On Tuesday, Gagan have been interrogated repeatedly and police expects that they can rescue the trafficked girls after the interrogation. Moreover, other members of his racket will also get arrested.
