Inter-state arms racket busted, ammo seized

Ahead of US President Barack Obama’s visit to Delhi and Republic day celebrations, the Special Cell of Delhi Police has busted an Inter-State gang involved in illegal arms and ammunition trade. Three persons have been arrested from east Delhi’s Welcome Colony Metro Station and the team has recovered 1020 live cartridges of mainly 9 mm and 7.65 mm, police said on Sunday.
A specific input was received by the Special Cell that a huge consignment of illegal ammunition would be supplied near the metro station on Wednesday, based on which a trap was laid and the three persons identified as Mohammad Sharik (42), Faeeem Miya (45), and Mohammad Imran (32) were apprehended.
“The gang procured ammunition from Sitapur and sold them to criminal elements in Delhi and NCR. We have recovered 1020 live cartridges including 100 cartridges of Prohibited 9 mm from the accused persons.”
